Waldorf teachers go through additional training that is specific to our program. Rudolf Steiner College, a national Waldorf training institution based in Fair Oaks, California, sponsors the San Francisco Waldorf Teacher Training Program, which is a three-year weekend-summer Waldorf teacher education program housed during the school year on the grade school campus of SFWS. Although this valuable program is financially independent of SFWS, various workshops are offered to faculty and parents.
The Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teacher Training (BACWTT) under the direction of Ken Smith, which also serves the greater Bay Area, is another three-year weekend-summer program, which is based in Marin County.
Both programs draw heavily upon the SFWS faculty to teach many of their classes. Further, SFWS liberally opens its doors to students from both programs through observations, mentoring, and teaching practicums. A large percentage of our past and current teachers have come to our faculty from one these programs.
