Transition to High School

8th grade projectAs the children enter their last year in the grade school we want them to savor their time and deepen their bonds and friendships as young adolescents. At the same time we want them to leave prepared for the challenges of high school and ready to excel in the next phase of their intellectual and emotional development. The foundation laid for them over the grade school years creates a strong and healthy platform upon which they build in high school.

High School is considered the crown of Waldorf Education, the place where the foundations laid in the grade school years are able to fully blossom into the extraordinary poise of our graduates. As a result, the majority of our grade school students continue on with us into high school. However, over the years, a number of our students have chosen to go to other high schools in the area, including University High School, Lowell High School, Lick Wilmerding, School of the Arts (SOTA), Drew School, The Bay School, and the Urban School, among others.

Our high school classes are currently about fifty percent students continuing from the grade school and fifty percent from other elementary schools from around the region, including other Waldorf schools as well as independent, parochial, and public schools.

An overview for current SFWGS 8th grade families of the transition to high school process.
