Dr. Abby Medcalf, a gifted Bay Area therapist and mother of three, will discuss how drugs and alcohol can appeal to stressed-out teens. Even minimal alcohol and drug use during high school can have serious impacts on the developing teen brain. Dr. Medcalf will talk about what’s happening – physically and emotionally – in teen brains and how drugs and alcohol affect behavior and performance.
PCBAHS aims to build bridges between teens, parents and professionals to help with parenting challenges and to counter feelings of frustration and isolation that both teens and parents encounter during the journey through the teenage years. The Parents’ Coalition also publishes a quarterly newsletter, ParenTeen, to help parents understand the developmental and social complexities of the teen years. You can find ParenTeen at the PCBAHS web site: parentscoalition.net.
