Winter Fair 2012

Appreciations & Thanks

Winter Fair would not be possible without the incredible volunteer effort from the school community. Thank you for all of the support before, during, and after the Fair. Its success is a testament to our community and  the overall willingness to pitch in to make events like this wonderful.

Special thanks are due to the following people:

The Winter Fair Coordinators Heather Mitchell and Jeni Vullings have been hard at work since last winter, sorting through the myriad of details that are essential to making and event like this even imaginable.  Their hard work and heart-felt dedication to the school was in evidence at every step of the way.  Many sincere thanks to them.

Two years ago, our Winter Fair coordinator unexpectedly moved out of town right before school started, leaving the position open and the fair plans in great doubt.  With much cajolling, Mitch was able to convince his wife Heather to take on the enormous task of managing the fair.  Her second year she tapped Jeni to assist, and since then they have led fair planning together for an additional two years.  Even though she has come to love planning the fair, Heather has made a difficult decision to step down as fair coordinator, so please join us in wishing her a hearty thank you for the past two and a half years of significant work on behalf of the school.

We also offer huge thanks to the following coordinators for each class who supported the many different activities. With these leaders, the fair worked seamlessly.

Food and Drinks: This year's food - incredible sandwiches and beautiful salads - was donated by 5th grade parents Joel Bleskacek and Maxine Siu and PLOW, their restaurant in Potrero Hill.  We are very grateful for their help in planning and preparing a wonderful meal that fed over 400 attendees of the fair.

Pony Rides: We are grateful for an anonymous donation to support the Pony Rides and Petting Zoo.  This new addition to Winter Fair delighted many children as they rode the ponies up and down Washington street.

Games: Special thanks go to Justin Ganz, Anne Fischer and Jodi Jirsa for envisioning and creating the Castle Quest over the past few months.  Also, we would like to thank Candace Tam, Emily O'Keeffe, Jeni Vullings and Heather Mitchell for creating the new game "Mushroom Toss," which was a huge hit with the children.  Finally, Nat Gleason and Anne Fischer were instrumental in reviving "Gnome Bowling," with little direction on how it was supposed to work... again, a huge success with everyone.

Many thanks to the Parents Association and Book Closet for staffing and merchandising the PA Room.  A special thanks to the Book Closet Coordinator Cynthia Dewar-Kudsi, the PA co-chairs TA EggenNaomi GoldnerLisa Lehto, Melinda Scully, and Candace Tam, and Faculty Advisor Ann Grandin.

We are extremely grateful to the facilities and administrative support provided by Rein Ratsep and Cory Powers, who braved the early morning rains on Sunday to complete the Fair setup (and in some cases recreation of what existed the night before).
