This past weekend, the community celebrated the official inaugural event at the David Bushnell Center for Athletics and Community on May 7, 2022. Donor and Spring Night attendees gathered for the unveiling of the Center’s donor wall at a special reception in Curiosity Courtyard before dinner and the evening’s festivities. Besides the names of all the generous individuals and organizations who helped realized the Bushnell Center, the wall contained a note commemorating the late lead architect and beloved SF Waldorf parent David Bushnell as well as an explanation of the intention and funding behind Curiosity Courtyard. The speaker of honor at the unveiling was David Bushnell’s wife Laurence Jaquet, who spoke on their long-standing involvement in the community, which began as parents but then evolved into integral roles as the Upper Grades science teacher–Laurence herself–and as the visionary architect of the high school building upon expansion, a task David took on lovingly with Waldorf Education values and needs in mind. Craig Appel, Administrative Director; Mitch Mitchell, Advancement Director; and Jim Stearns, former Board of Trustees member were also among those who spoke at the event and welcomed the crowd to the inaugural Bushnell Center all-school gathering. And we were exceptionally grateful for the Center’s ample space on that cold, windy night when the party was moved inside! Thank you to everyone that joined us to celebrate. And a big thanks to Davis Sign Co in San Rafael for a wonderful job on the wall.
