Program Overview
Hands on research, design and build project, investigate and learn about structure in place, field trips to architectural design sites, learning about materials and tools, learning how indigenous history and relationship to place inform contemporary design. Pizza on Fridays!
Participants: Students in Grades 6–12
Team Leaders: Ross McCarthy (Lead), Alex Murray Clark, and invited community advisors.
Design / Build
When: June 9-27, 2025 | 11:30 AM to 4 PM
Where: SFWHS Campus, SFWHS Courtyard
Design
- Concept Refinement: Students work with architecture and design professionals, exploring how best to weave SFWHS culture into a site-specific design.
- Feasibility & Details: The group finalizes materials, construction methods, and structural details.
- Deliverables: Complete design drawings and sketches | Physical or digital prototypes | A clear plan for construction and community use
Build
- Hands-On Construction: Students collaborate with professionals to bring the refined design to life.
- Community Engagement: The build process welcomes input and support from the broader school community.
- Deliverables: Completed land art structure in the school courtyard | Documentation of the building process for future reflection and exhibition.
Program Fee: $2225 (includes all activities, field trips, and extensive and expensive construction-related materials)
Pizza will be provided on Fridays, BUT student will need to bring hearty snack/lunch and a water bottle.
