Summer Programs 2025

For children currently enrolled in SFWS's Preschool during the 2024-2025 school year.

Our Summer Preschool Camp  is a continuation of our school year and is therefore only offered to children who have competed at least one year of our Preschool program. The program is 3 weeks long.

The summer season and its festivals color the mood of this program and form the basis for songs and activities.  The children will do practical and artistic activities such as bread-making, soup-making, painting and handcrafts.  

Free play is the young child’s work.  Careful attention is paid to providing natural materials, beautiful “tools” that allow the child’s imagination and physical capabilities the greatest scope. The mornings will be spent outdoors in the Forest, with a Beach Day at Crissy Field the end of each week.

Summer Kindergarten Camp will spend the majority of the time outdoors as explorers and stewards of the land and sea around us. Children will experience lots of hiking, exploration and free-play in the many wonders of nature that are right here within a short hike from our campus. Pick-up locations may be adjusted to end points for those outings with longer hikes. Excursions will include everything from our beautiful neighborhood park, Alta Plaza, to the Presidio and Crissy Field. On days we remain closer to campus, the children may return to do a summer themed craft activity as well.

• The camp will run from Monday, June 16 - Friday, July 18. There is no camp on Thursday, June 19th and Friday, July 4th.
• The hours are 8:30 AM – 3  PM
• Drop-off and Pick-up will be at our Grade School Campus (unless pre-notified of an alternate location such as Crissy Field)
• Children should come prepared with two hearty snacks (labeled as ‘snack’), a substantial lunch, and a fully filled water bottle in their backpack.
• They will need a sun hat and sunscreen.
• Children should also have extra layers for cool mornings and (hopefully!) warm afternoons.
• Please dress your children in clothes that can get dirty and muddy!

Children should have at least one year of Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten experience. Priority enrollment is given to current SFWS families.

Fees are per week: $440 or $550 depending on number of days.

Summer Camp for Students currently in Grades 1st through 4 (2024-2025 school year)* will have a weekly theme each morning led by an experienced Waldorf teachers. Themes will be based in practical activities  or nature activities.  The afternoons will be spent in outdoor free play on campus or at nearby beautiful Alta Plaza Park. Closing circle will round out the day.

*Children must be at least 7-years old for this camp and have completed at least one year in a grade school setting. For younger children, please consider our Kindergarten Camp.

• June 16 - July 18 (no Camp on Juneteenth or July 4)
• Camp hours are 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
• Camp is based out of our Grade School Campus in Pacific Heights 
• Children should come prepared with two hearty snacks (labeled as ‘snack’), a substantial lunch, and a fully filled water bottle in their backpack.
• They will need a sun hat and sunscreen.
• Children should also have extra layers for cool mornings and (hopefully!) warm afternoons.
• Children should be dressed in clothes that can get dirty and muddy!
• Space is limited. Enrolled SFWS students receive priority.

Fees are per week: $600 or $480 depending on number of days.

Program Overview

Hands on research, design and build project, investigate and learn about structure in place, field trips to architectural design sites, learning about materials and tools, learning how indigenous history and relationship to place inform contemporary design. Pizza on Fridays!

Participants: Students in Grades 6–12
Team Leaders: Ross McCarthy (Lead), Alex Murray Clark, and invited community advisors.

Design / Build

When: June 9-27, 2025 | 11:30 AM to 4 PM
Where: SFWHS Campus, SFWHS Courtyard

Design

• Concept Refinement: Students work with architecture and design professionals, exploring how best to weave SFWHS culture into a site-specific design.
• Feasibility & Details: The group finalizes materials, construction methods, and structural details.
• Deliverables: Complete design drawings and sketches |  Physical or digital prototypes | A clear plan for construction and community use

Build

• Hands-On Construction: Students collaborate with professionals to bring the refined design to life.
• Community Engagement: The build process welcomes input and support from the broader school community.
• Deliverables: Completed land art structure in the school courtyard | Documentation of the building process for future reflection and exhibition.

Program Fee: $2225 (includes all activities, field trips, and extensive and expensive construction-related materials)

Pizza will be provided on Fridays, BUT student will need to bring hearty snack/lunch and a water bottle.
