Parent/Guardian Education Events

Understanding the Student Through a Waldorf Lens

The San Francisco Waldorf School's Parent/Guardian Education Series offers families an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Waldorf education and, most importantly, the people at the heart of it -- our students.

Through a series of conversations, presentations, and gathers throughout the school year, faculty, school leaders, and subject-matter experts will share insights into our pedagogy, curriculum, and approach to the child and teen's development, exploring how each is thoughtfully shaped to meet students at their particular stage of growth, learning, and understanding.

These events are designed to help parents and guardians better understand what their children are experiencing at school, why we teach what we teach, and how our approach supports their development at each stage of their educational journey. From the early years through adolescence, we want families to have a deeper understanding of their child's emerging capacities, needs, challenges, and opportunities.

At SF Waldorf, we see ourselves as more than a place where children go to school. We want to be a trusted resource and partner for families as they navigate the many stages of their child and teen's school life. By creating opportunities for shared learning and meaningful conversation, this series helps build a common understanding between school and home -- and gives parents/guardians greater insight, confidence, and context as they support their students.

We are thrilled and honored to have our two inaugural events led and moderated by Robin Theiss. Learn more about this celebrated author, educator, facilitator, and mentor by reading her full bio here.

Growing up Human: Childhood, Technology, and Freedom with Robin Theiss
Thursday, October 29th, 6 pm - 7:30 pm

Childhood is a unique period when essential human capacities are still taking shape. Waldorf Education strives to create the foundation that will lead to inner clarity to think independently, and the determination for true moral action. What does that mean for raising children in a world of rapidly changing technology?

Educating for the Future with Robin Theiss
Wednesday, October 7th, 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Hosted by the Parent Council

We are raising students for a world we cannot fully predict. Artificial intelligence is the technology immediately in front of us, but it points toward a much larger educational question: What capacities will young people need in order to think independently, exercise judgment, remain creative, and shape the future rather than simply adapt to it?

In this parent evening, Robin Theiss will explore the developmental arc of Waldorf education from early childhood through high school and the image of the human being that lies behind it. What if the question is not how quickly we can prepare our students for the world they are entering, but what needs time to develop before they enter it?
