From exercises in coordination and harmonious movement in the grade school, Eurythmy blossoms into a breathtaking performing art in the high school and beyond— pure poetry in motion! This public performance by the San Francisco Youth Eurythmy Troupe,  directed by Astrid Thiersch, is an enchanting spectacle of movement, color, and light, performed to music and the spoken word. The program includes a Chinese folk tale, The Spring of Butterflies; verses by Lao Tzu, Nelson Mandela, and Rudolf Steiner; poems about animals; music by Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Satie; humoresques, and more! The program is appropriate for all ages.

Tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com  and San Francisco Waldorf Grade/High School offices. For more information call SF Waldorf HS at 415-431-2736.

This year's Eurythmy Troupe is composed of twenty-five San Francisco Waldorf High School students from ninth through twelfth grades. Their intensive practice of eurythmy as a performing art culminates in an annual public performance in San Francisco and a tour to other Waldorf schools worldwide. One of the greatest benefits of touring is meeting high school students from other countries – despite differences of language and culture, the common experiences of the world and ideals for the future always shine through, and lasting friendships are made.

The Troupe has acquired a fine reputation through its annual performances in San Francisco and on tour. Significant highlights include: performing at Youth Conferences in Switzerland and Germany, in August of 1999; performing at an International Teachers’ Conference in California in 2000; performing in Switzerland in 2001 and 2003; and tours to New York in 2002, Texas in 2004; Germany in 2005; Japan in 2006, Italy in 2007, Egypt in 2008, India in 2009, France in 2010, China in 2011, New Zealand in 2012, and Holland and Belgium in 2013. This year’s performance premieres the Troupe’s tour to Taiwan in February 2014.
