Affording Our School
Financial Philosophy
As an independent school, we rely on tuition income and philanthropic support to meet our annual expenses. We work to keep expenses as low as possible without compromising the quality of our educational program.
San Francisco Waldorf School adheres to the principle that economic and financial considerations should not solely determine who can or cannot attend the school.Affordable Tuition Program (ATP) Grants
We strive to help families afford this exceptional education regardless of financial considerations. We are committed to serving students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and we seek families who are committed to Waldorf education for their children.
ATP grants are made for the school year to candidates in kindergarten to 12th grade (Nursery not eligible); a new application is required each year since family circumstances and the available funding may change. Admissions decisions are made without regard to the financial circumstances of a candidate’s family.
- How do I apply?
- Can I estimate a potential grant amount?
- How many families qualify?
- How large are the grants?
- How do you determine awards?
- Where do the funds come from?
- Important tax law changes

Kitch Scholars and Diversity & Inclusion Fund Grants
We are committed to increasing access to Waldorf education to historically under-represented groups through our Kitch Scholars and our Diversity & Inclusion Fund grant programs.
Kitch Scholars: Two high school students each year are awarded Kitch Scholars grants. The grants are for close to full tuition and continue over four years. Grants are awarded by the admissions committee based on need and academic achievement. An admission and SSS application are required.
Diversity & Inclusion Fund Grants: This Fund is established to promote understanding, equity, awareness, and celebration of the diversity in our school community. Grants range in size from $1,000 to $5,000 and are in addition to ATP grants.
