First LEED Gold Certified School In San Francisco

Our redesigned, award-winning campus is easily accessible and surrounded by green. We are located near Stern Grove in the friendly West Portal neighborhood, walking distance to local businesses and right across from Muni stops (M and K). The campus has nine classrooms, three state-of-the-art science labs, two dedicated art studios, and a library media center.

The school is the first in San Francisco to be awarded the coveted LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Business Council. The design team, led by alumni parent David Bushnell of 450 Architects, visually integrated the building with the surrounding eucalyptus grove and maximized energy efficiency and water conservation. The design ensures that air and light quality are conducive to learning.

The surrounding open space is used by students throughout the day for habitat restoration, urban gardening, and beekeeping and environmental clubs. Beyond school grounds, students make use of their urban setting for learning, extra-curriculars, and lunch at nearby eateries. There are frequent excursions—a visit to the De Young Museum, poetry writing on the beach, and lectures by local authors and activists. School vans take classes on trips and student athletes to nearby fields. Students make good use of bikes, buses, and MUNI.
