Step through the doors of our cozy library cottage and discover the magical world of books.
Students use this inviting space to explore the shelves, read, and do homework. There are more than 5,000 volumes for all grades, from picture books to young nonfiction to middle-grade readers. There are also vast multicultural offerings, including African-American, Native American, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Asian literature. Parents are welcome to borrow parenting resources and books about the Waldorf curriculum.
The librarian is a supportive resource for students, parents, and teachers. Summer Reading Lists are put together by the librarian in consultation with each Class Teacher to review the previous year's Main Lessons, encourage reading for pleasure, and support parents in their efforts to find age-appropriate material.
San Francisco Public Library has an excellent online catalog. Sign in with your library card, and request delivery of books to your local branch.
If you are in San Francisco, consider purchasing locally at:
- Books, Inc. (The Marina, Opera Plaza, and Laurel Village)
- The Booksmith (The Haight)
- Book Passage (The Ferry Building and Corte Madera)
- Mrs. Dalloway's (Berkeley).
If you are purchasing books online, consider using AmazonSmile! Amazon will donate a small portion of the purchase price to the school. Visit smile.amazon.com and select San Francisco Waldorf School Association as your charity of choice. Extensions are available in Firefox and Chrome to redirect all Amazon shopping to their Smile program.
Summer Reading 2019
These lists are created each year with specific groups of children and their Class Teacher's plans in mind. SFWS is happy to share the reading lists outside the school, but appreciates SFWS and the grade school library being acknowledged when they are shared.
