High School Parent Council
Welcome! All parents and guardians of enrolled high school students are automatically members of our Parent Council. At least two parents from each grade also serve on the Parent Council Steering Committee.
The mission of the Parent Council is:
- To build a parent-to-parent support network.
- To support parent education.
- To encourage and facilitate communication between parents and faculty/administration of the school.
The Parent Council meets monthly at the high school—all parents are welcome to attend. Sponsored events throughout the year include social gatherings such as the back to school Welcome BBQ and grade-specific parent potluck evenings for parents to meet and socialize with other families in their child’s class.
Parent Education Program
Through Parent Council-sponsored educational evenings, and our school’s participation in the Parents’ Coalition of Bay Area High Schools, the Parent Council facilitates programming on adolescent parenting issues for SFWHS parents and the larger community.
Connect with the Administration and Faculty
The Parent Council Steering Committee meets monthly with the Administrative Director and High School Chair to discuss areas of mutual interest and facilitate an open communication channel between parents and school. To honor our faculty and staff each year, the Parent Council sponsors an appreciation event.
The Parent Council uses its available resources to support the parent-related activities described above. While it does not have a specific fundraising mission, the Parent Council seeks to support the school’s various fundraising activities and events by providing parent volunteers as needed, particularly for Spring Night, the school’s largest fundraising event.
The Parent Council works to support a healthy student life, including facilitating parent discussions around social guidelines, and provides a set of principles as talking points for each incoming class.
